Clearly I'm bored to make a thread.
... and because random luck scenarios can be a bitch. Shall we compare random event scenarios we've run into?
I've had something bad happen all the times I've picked up a lone survivor on a planet who had questionable mental health. First time they killed a crew member and the second time they blew themselves up and damaged the ship.
Haven't had anything bad happen with the giant spiders... yet.
The Zoltan "Eye of... whatever" thing has either killed a crew member or led to a battle.
I haven't had anything happen with the Zoltan crew FTL study but I can definitely see where something would go wrong, plus the reward is fairly meager.
I had a crew member die once while checking out a space station with faint life signs. I believe they got sick and died but it was once out of... at least six tries.
I ignore the Rebels/pirates who don't want to fight. I don't bother with the slaver ships unless I have scrap to burn, but I don't fight them either. That and I usually accept increased bribes and mercy pleas, which can be humorous if the ship was on fire since it may cause the enemy ship to explode after they give me stuff.
Let's see... I don't mind waltzing into a nebula, be it an isolated patch or the entire sector.
Also I suck with The Torus since non-damaging status crap is pretty much a massive taboo with my playstyle. Plus I hate relying on random drones that may or may not hit what I want them to. A shame because I really like the Engi.
I need more ships...

I seriously thought this was gonna be a Sonic 06 thread, lolol.
I can't remember EVERYTHING that's happened, but I'll try.
I've had enough people die trying to fight the spiders to never do it again.
I don't think I've ever run into that Eye of Whatever thing yet. Sounds like it'd either give you scrap or kill a member/cause a fight.
A Mantis in charred clothing beamed aboard and I chose to save him, only for him to sabotage my ship and cause a fight. Then I chose to give him to the Engis that were chasing him and he caused hull damage AGAIN. Sometimes he WILL join and you'll have to fight the Engis.
Other things such as sending a crew member to do something only to get killed caused me to be very wary about it. The one thing I hate is losing crew members.
If anyone picks a fight with me, I won't let them go until either they die, I die, I'm near a sun/very low on hull damage and want to get out fast or they offer me one of their slaves/a good weapon.
I HATE nebulae for some reason. I dunno, having no sensors really makes me feel not good about it, especially if there's a fire.
I actually used to like the Torus for some reason. I guess the starting drone control means you could stack anti-ship drones and watch them go to town.

THAT FUCKING MANTIS... actually all the times I found him he helped us, perhaps I'll send him to the Engi now since they are generally nicer. Depends on how banged up the hull is and my crew situation but I'm more willing to sacrifice the hull than crew--at least the former can be repaired.
Since you stay out of Nebulas usually... well you're probably better off. Aside from the uncharted ones they have the Slug nebulas and those fights can be crazy since they love to hack stuff. Once I ran into some and they were going to offer some wares (lots of text boxes to click through) and then they hacked my weapons--all of them so I had to bolt once I could jump.
Ran into a Slug twice who was offering something foul to drink. Accepted it like a tool but the guy was a bro who offered to fix up my ship for free and sell some stuff. Definitely a risky move that worked out in the end.
I avoid the Mantis sectors as much as possible since they usually board and that sucks unless you end up fighting them in the medbay.
If I have to choose which sectors to visit, I generally go in this order unless I'm feeling contrary.
Civilan sectors > Engi > Nebulas > Rebel/Pirate > Rock > Zoltan > Mantis
I've only made it to the end twice and both times I got slaughtered. Dayum shame.
Hmmm.... every time. Cannot unhear.

From the times I do go to Slug controlled nebulae, they always try to scam me. I think that's what they do, trick you most of the time.
One time I was there, I had my own Slug member. They were trying to sell me stuff, but there was a blue option for the Slug member. Said something along the lines of, "detect enemy on board", and that started a fight. I'm sure they're legit sometimes, but I don't take the chances.

I'm pretty careless but it's paid off a few times. Got some nice weapons and lots of crew members. Haven't had a Slug yet; I usually seem to get Engi, Rockmen, and the occasional Mantis.
I just managed to get the Rock ship earlier so I'll try that one out after my current ship blows up due to crap weaponry. Sector 7 and I still have the base weapons and a near-useless Hull Beam.

I know I said the Mantis were my least favorite crew members, but after using their ship, I'm really starting to love them. Plus, if you kill all the crew members on an enemy ship without blowing it up, I think you get more scrap and stuff. Of course it's a little harder to use but it pays off. The scrap payout you get really starts to add up.

I love the Rock ship so far since missiles bypass the shields, as those are my bane in later sectors.

I can safely say that the Mantis ship is the easiest ship to beat the game with. I won't go into details but it really is, or at least in my experience.

My guess would be their extra damage against personnel.
That or weaken them via ship guns when they're repairing something you damaged, then board their ship and kill the remaining crew in their weakened state.

Yeah, basically. Slowly kill off the whole crew then destroy the shields from the inside and go at it.
